This recipe comes courtesy of the Dr. Mommy Online blog and incorporates whole flax seeds into the smoothie. Flax is a wonder-seed whose properties fight everything from high cholesterol and constipation to diabetes and cancer! For best results, grind the flax seed first! You can also use frozen fruit and leave out the ice.
2 tbsp. whole flax seeds
1 cup blueberries
1/2 c. Greek yogurt
1 c. oat or almond milk
1 tbsp. raw honey or agave nectar
1/4 tsp. almond extract
6 ice cubes
2 oz. protein powder (optional)
Place flax seed in blender and blend on high until thoroughly ground. Add remaining ingredients in order listed and run on High speed for 40 to 50 seconds (“Whole Juice” cycle with a Blendtec).
