  1. differences between 5200?

    • bd

Lizney, the 7500 is part of the Next Generation line of Vitamix models. It comes with a 2.2 horsepower motor and a shorter, wider 64-ounce container. Because of the wider container configuration, it has a 4″ blade inside. The 5200 is part of the Classic series and has a 2 horsepower motor with a taller, narrower 64-ounce container with a 3″ blade. Both will perform the exact same functions and perform them equally well for almost all intents and purposes. The 7500 includes a Pulse toggle lever while the 5200 does not but pulsing can easily be done with the 5200 by toggling the Power On/Off lever up and down. When making a buying decision between these two models I recommend focusing primarily on overall size configuration and price.

  2. Considering purchase of Vitamix 7500 blender. If blending smoothies for one, will they still blend well in the 64oz jar? Most of the time I’ll be using it to puree soups and try recipes in book, but want to make sure smaller items blend well too.

Are the certified reconditioned a good option?

    Thanks,
    Pam

Pam, as you can imagine, everyone has a different idea of what a “smoothie for one” is. For those who aren’t accustomed to making them, it is actually a bit challenging to make a super-small smoothie. For instance, 3 strawberries, half of one banana a small handful of spinach, and just 4 ounces of water will create a nearly 10-ounce finished product. If this is about the size you’d consider “single-serving,” then, yes, the 7500 will handle this without a problem. You could probably even reduce the size a few ounces and still get great performance out of the shorter, wider container.

If you wanted smoothies in the 4 to 6-ounce size, there are certainly other containers that might be more accommodating. I would probably recommend the 32-ounce wet container for these. Or, you could simply stop the blender, and “help out” the ingredients with a spatula. This will work, it just takes a little more effort on your part. Myself, I always make larger servings than I need at any one time, and store the leftover portions in a sealed glass jar in the refrigerator to have later in the day or next morning. This always works well, too.
